Fedibel, the federation of electrical wholesalers in Belgium, is part of the sector organisation Techlink. Within this umbrella federation, all links of the value chain are brought together: installers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and large technical maintenance companies.

Thanks to this broad base, Techlink represents the entire technical sector – from electricity and HVAC to sanitary technology, renewable energy, and home automation. This makes the organisation unique in Belgium and gives it a strong mandate with government and stakeholders.

War for Talent: engaging young people in technology

The demand for technical talent has never been greater, while the influx of young people into technical education continues to decline. To reverse this trend, Techlink launched the campaign Install Tomorrow. The highlight was the Install Tomorrow Experience Day at Walibi, where more than 2,000 students from electrical and HVAC programmes discovered the diversity of technology through interactive workshops, demonstrations, and backstage tours.

The message was clear: technology is exciting, future-oriented, and indispensable for challenges such as the energy transition and smart buildings. With this initiative, Techlink aims to inspire young people and strengthen the image of technical professions, encouraging more talent to enter the sector.

Techlink Data Portal: a single gateway to all sector information

Another important project is the creation of the Techlink Data Portal, a neutral and sector-supported platform that simplifies data exchange. Manufacturers can share their product data via their own environment or “Suite”, after which wholesalers can access this information with a single click in the desired format (Excel, BMEcat, ETIM xChange).

In addition, the portal is evolving into a central gateway for all relevant data in the construction chain: from commercial and geometric data to circular data, EPDs, LCAs, Digital Product Passports, as-built documents, and BIM links. In this way, it supports not only wholesalers and manufacturers, but also installers, engineering offices, and facility managers.

Competition Charter: clear rules for the sector

Finally, Fedibel developed a competition charter. This document emphasises the importance of compliance with competition rules and clarifies which agreements between manufacturers, distributors, and installers are permitted, risky, or prohibited. The charter was widely distributed and is intended to contribute to transparent and fair competition within the sector.
