The EUEW celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2025 and, since 1955, has maintained an institutional life that predates that of the EEC itself. But Europe and the world today do not make this celebration an easy moment!

The start of a new five-year term for the European Union institutions coincides with a geopolitical context of great uncertainty, in which war and the possibility of a strategic shift by the US as an economic and political partner pose new challenges to the European community and its economy.

Concerns are growing about the dynamics of important industrial sectors, new challenges are emerging to the competitiveness of the green transition, and social tensions are rising regarding the international mobility of workers in a context of talent shortages, population aging and skills gap.

The idea of growing strategic autonomy connected to reindustrialization in the European space coexists with tensions and protectionist temptations both in the world and in Europe, where the single market has faced several threats of fragmentation.

The challenges are no lesser today than they were 70 years ago.

The daily life of people, cities, buildings and industry, of the environment and digital, the energy transition, the connectivity and resource efficiency, even the access to energy, all of them vectors on which our social, economic and political world is based, they need our industries, they need our solutions and our value. We need to be up to the occasion!

AGEFE, in Portugal, as well as EUEW at European level, are sectoral actors in such challenges and are responsible for the creation and development of relational and communication chains that enhance the value of distribution and the electrodigital industry, giving voice to the wholesale distribution of electrical material.

Wholesale distribution today demands a strong and present EUEW in the European institutional space, an organization that fosters an active participation of all its members and champions an agenda that is visible and addresses, heads on, the challenges that time poses to our world and to the wholesale distribution of electrical equipment.

Long live EUEW!
